The work is inspired by the real-life story of Blanche Monnier, a French woman who lived between 1849 and 1913. The artist positions Monnier as the central figure of the painting. In the narrative, the young and attractive Monnier is in love with a man who is not accepted by her aristocratic family. They want to prevent their daughter's marriage because it would harm their honor. They declare Blanche dead. For the rest of her life, Monnier is imprisoned by her family in a filthy, neglected room. Her whole life fades in this room. When she is accidentally discovered alive, she is now an old and mentally unstable woman.
The artist imagines that she rescued the woman in this tragic story in her imaginary universe. With vivid colors, sparkles, abstract illustrations, and motifs, she once again gives the woman the life she deserves on canvas.
