Diary of a narcissist
Artwork Details: Acrylic paint, marker, acrylic ink, oil pastel, soft pastel, gold mica flakes, pearl mica flakes and cling film on 120 x 150 cm canvas
Location & Year: Malta – 2024
The work reveals the deep inner turmoil and lasting trauma experienced by a victim who has fallen into the manipulative clutches of a narcissistic individual.
The victim is depicted as fragile, tired and delicate, bound by invisible constraints, while the narcissistic figure exudes an air of dominance and authority. The blue color palette chosen for the victim functions as a reflection of his emotional state. It creates an atmosphere of loneliness and helplessness on the figures. It wants to express the deep dimension of narcissistic manipulation. The narcissist's blue dress conveys a pertinent message to the viewer about his deep inner emptiness and pathetic state of mind.
Overall, the work encourages viewers to empathize with the victim's silent but relentless struggle for survival and serves as a contemplation on the profound impact of losing one's sense of identity and freedom
